Validation of the Automated Snow and Ice Mapping Products
for Northern Hemisphere

The validation process is based on the comparison of the daily OSDPD automated snow and ice map products and IMS Snow/Ice map products versus the surface snow reports.

The overall accuracy is assessed as the percentage of the correctly identified snow and land pixels out of the the total number of pixels used for comparison.

Fraction of detected snow is the percentage of correctly identified snow over the sum of identified snow and missed snow. False alarm rate is the percentage of false snow over the sum of false and correctly identified land pixels.
